Despite periods of isolation, the Japanese civilisation received and welcomed a number of influences from Asia, then the Western world, in all sorts of fields. New doctrines or skills were assimilated into the rich unique culture(s). At times, the people of Japan leveraged their local culture and gave birth to major innovations in art or the production of goods and services.

In turn, several waves of “Japonisme” have fertilized the world: imari ware (porcelain) in the 17th century, woodblock prints in the 19th century, gastronomy or fashion  design in the last decades … as well as miniaturization, quality circles, Just-In-Time management, robots and other business optimization services. Japan remains a  beacon for craftsmanship and service.

Like one’s own image seen in a deforming mirror, Japan challenges the visitor and corporations alike. With the right comprehension keys provided by local “insiders” capable of relating to their client’s background, experiencing  Japan and hearing the stories behind can be highly inspiring, for one’s soul or business practices.
